Supply List for
Stack-n-Whack® Butterflies
Workshop with Bethany Reynolds

Skill Level: Intermediate
Finished Quilt Top: 47" x 44"

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS
Main Fabric: This should be a medium-to-large scale print. Look for a print with good light/dark contrast and a variety of motifs. Measure the design repeat along one selvage, measuring from a point on one motif to the same point on the next occurrence of that motif.

If the design repeat of the
Main Fabric is:
 6" to 10"  11" to 14"  15" to 23"  23" to 27"  Over 27"
You will need this many yards:  3 3/4  3 1/2  5 3/4  6 1/2  8 repeats

Fabric Notes:
Visit the link below for fabric tips before choosing your main fabric, or read pgs. 50-52 of "Stack-n-Whackier Quilts," as the fabric selection is very important to this design. For the main fabric, choose a medium to large scale print with a variety of lines, shapes, and colors. Both front and reverse sides of the fabric will be visible in the finished quilt. Look for prints that have well-saturated printing through to the reverse side, but the two sides do not need to be identical. Tips on selecting fabric for this technique are online here: http://www.bethanyreynolds.com/mirrorimagefabrics.html

Additional Fabrics:
Background Fabric: 1 3/4 yds. light print. Choose a non-directional print that will provide a good contrast to the main print. Batiks will work for the background, and this fabric may be prewashed if you prefer.
Butterfly Bodies (not needed in class): 1/8
Inner Border Fabric (not needed in class)
Outer Border Fabric* (not needed in class): 5/8 (cut crosswise) or 1 3/4 (cut lengthwise) (There will be enough of the Main Fabric yardage for the outer border. Add this yardage if you prefer to use a fabric other than the Main Fabric for this border. Do not reduce the Main Fabric yardage.)

Supplies:
Sewing machine, extension cord, scissors, seam ripper, neutral colored thread, flat flower head pins, 45mm or 60 mm rotary cutter with sharp blade, cutting mat (17" x 23" or larger-please do not bring a smaller mat, as it will make cutting much more difficult), 6" or 6 1/2" x 24" rotary cutting ruler, "Magic Sizing®" or spray starch. Optional: iron and bath towel to press on. If there are power limitations, be prepared to share irons. A special ruler for cutting the 45° triangle wedges will be available for use in class. Purchase is optional.

Note: for conferences, check to see if sewing machines and/or irons are supplied before packing them.

Supply Fee: There is a $2.00 supply fee (payable at the workshop) to cover the cost of the illustrated handouts. If you purchase a copy of "Stack-n-Whackier Quilts" in class, or bring one to class, you will not need the handouts and the supply fee will be waived.
