In this 3 hr. class, we'll work on
scrap fan blocks with curved outer edges and quarter-circle bases.
The fans are stitched to a background square, so there are no
curved seams.
Fabric Tips: Choose a style of fabrics,
such as novelty prints, reproduction fabrics, traditional florals,
or batiks, and bring a variety of fabrics in that category. Fat
quarters and "leftovers" are fine. A small tote bag
full will be plenty. We will choose a wedge size to complement
the scale of your fabrics. Also bring 1/2 yd. of one or more
solid or tone-on-tone fabrics for the trim, and 1/2 yd. of a
neutral fabric for background, to practice the appliqué
techniques.
Cutting Supplies: 45mm or larger rotary
cutter, 12" x 18" or larger mat, and 6" x 12"
or larger ruler. Stack-n-Whack 18 Degree fan rulers will be available
for use in class.
Other Supplies: Sewing machine, extension cord, iron and bath
towel to press on and Magic Sizing® or spray starch (ironing
setups may be shared by 2-3 students), neutral thread for piecing,
cotton or rayon thread to match trim fabric for appliqué,
scissors.
Note: for conferences,
check to see if sewing machines and/or irons are supplied before
packing them.
Supply fee: $1.00 for illustrated handouts.
